The Corbett Education Foundation Student Ambassador for 2021-2022 is Sophie Taylor. Sophie started attending classes at Corbett as a fifth grader, along with her twin brother. (She is older by seven minutes.) Her two sisters were already students here. Sophie shares, “I enjoy how small the school community is. It feels more homey and everyone knows each other. It makes it better to connect with people.”
Sophie’s never-ending smile is a gateway to her connecting with others, whether school staff, coaches, or other students. She is making contacts through her work in the school offices. “My favorite class is being a teacher’s aide in the school office. I’m not only an aide for the high school, but also the grade school office. I have fun helping out in the grade school office and saying “Hi” to grade schoolers. I help the grade school with recess and lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays. Just whatever work is needed in the office, I help with.”
Academically, Sophie’s favorite class “would be any writing class. I love writing and being creative with words. I’m more of a creative person, not a formula person”, she says.
Outside of the classroom, Sophie is a co-captain to this year’s varsity volleyball team. She is also very active in her youth group. “They are like a second family and we do service projects and fun activities once a week”, Sophie states. Sophie has been a babysitter for family friends since her freshman year. This past summer, she babysat two-year-old twins, a boy and a girl. When time allows, “I also really love kayaking and hiking.”
Sophie’s future plans include attending a four-year college to major in Political Science. After that, she “would like to go to law school to pursue a career as a lawyer”.
We are pleased to have Sophie’s help with this year’s Corbett Education Foundation activities and ask that you join us in welcoming her to our team.
